"One of the sickest things I've seen in Kansas City politics." That memorable quote from Nick Haines found its way into my demo reel. Kansas City Week in Review is KCPT's weekly news discussion program, focusing entirely on state (Kansas and Missouri) and local topics. It shoots every Friday morning, airs every Friday evening, and I will never forget the process of setting up for this show. Basically it goes like this:
Tear down the set for Ruckus (another local discussion show that focuses more on politics)
Build the table for the show (five big pieces, none of them light, as well as the glass panels in the center of the table)
Set up the backdrops, chairs, and water for everyone
Get the cameras in position and the studio lighting ready to go
Have the engineers do their thing, getting the lav mics ready and white balancing the cameras
Sit around and chill out as the directors-producers get the B-roll packages ready
Once guests start showing up, get ready for showtime
This particular edition of the show, I was on Camera 1, which I nicknamed the "Nick Cam" since it is the camera Nick looks into during the program.
